The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Meru Senator Mithika Linturi over alleged hateful remarks he made in Eldoret during Deputy President William Ruto’s rally.
The development comes several hours after the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji directed Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to launch investigations into the Senator’s utterances.
The DPP, in a statement, said Mr Linturi’s statement “Watu wa Uasin Gishu msicheze na Kenya na kila nawaomba ni kwamba madoadoa yale mliyo nayo hapa muweze kuyaondoa” could incite feelings of contempt, hatred, violence and discrimination.
Mr Haji directed the IG to submit investigation report to his office by next week Friday.
The word “madoadoa” means “spots” and is likely to profile some communities against others.
NCIC said the words were calculated to be hateful and likely to affect harmonious coexistence between the Kalenjin and other communities.
“You are required to appear before NCIC offices on January 12 at 9am to assist the Commission with the ongoing investigations,” NCIC said in a release seen by The Press Point.
Mr Linturi however said he had been misquoted claiming that he only asked the audience to fully support United Democratic Alliance to the last man.
