Police in Mombasa have arrested a Matatu driver and conductor who assaulted a traffic police officer while undertaking his duties along Changamwe-Mikindani road.
The pair: Emmanuel Lwamba and Nicholas Ngwava descended on the traffic cop with blows and kicks injuring him on the chest and head and stole his mobile phone and Sh2000.
The officer was busy controlling traffic when the two, in Matatu KBF 578K, accosted him.
The duo are currently being detained at Jomvu Police Station awaiting their arraignment for the crime.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has appealed to the public to shun attacking police officers.
“Members of the public are cautioned against attacking a police officer on duty, since it is a serious offence that may land one in serious conflict with the law,” DCI shared.
