Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has issued a ban preventing Isiolo herders from crossing over to Meru side in search of pastures and water following last night killing of nine people at Mweronkoro.
The attack reportedly happened after some Isiolo camel herders were kicked out of the Meru side after the livestock wreaked havoc on several farms.
The Governor, while condemning the incident and condoling with the bereaved families, asked the security organs to help in enforcement of the ban.
“I hereby ban all camel and other livestock from crossing over into Meru county in search of pasture,” Mr Kiraitu said while calling for tolerance among communities neighbouring Meru County.
Mr Kiraitu said police should intensify security and prevent re-occurrence of similar incident.
He said in April last year, three people were killed in attacks in the same area while an attack in June 2020 resulted in one casualty.
“These patterns of attack are a trend which is a cause for worry,” the Governor said.
