The Employment, Labour and Relations court has barred Nairobi City County Assembly deputy clerk Adah Onyango from occupying office in acting capacity as the clerk.

The orders issued by Justice Mathews Nderi will remain in place pending determination of a case filed by activist Okiya Omtatah who claimed that Ms Onyango’s acting term had come to completion early this month.

According to the activist, the six months allowed legally, lapsed on December 6,2021 and therefore Ms Onyango has since been holding office illegally.

She was appointed on June 7, 2021 after the court barred Mr Edward Gichana from office pending determination of an appeal filed by former clerk Jacob Ngwele.

Mr Omtatah argues that allowing Ms Onyango to hold office for more than six months is illegal and a constitutional violation.
