Former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel who was jailed in November 5 for allegedly assaulting a female colleague has been released pending hearing and determination of his appeal.
The ex-legislator was sentenced to one year imprisonment without the option of a fine for physically assaulting current MP Sarah Korere (then nominated) at Harambee House in Nairobi in 2016.
Through his lawyer Saitabao Kanchori, the legislator challenged his sentence arguing that the court had sentenced him without sufficient evidence.
Lempurkel wanted the court to release him pending hearing of his appeal.
He was released on Sh100, 000 cash bail.
