Defiant residents of Moi Girls’ slum in Chuka town in Tharaka Nithi County on Friday evening tasted the wrath of charged police officers enforcing the curfew.
Cognisant of the curfew orders, the slum dwellers got out of their dens as the sun went down for their black market business but met with the the men and women in uniform who had already taken over the the streets.
Without a word, the officers descended on them with rungus turning the slum a battle field.
Witnessing the drama from a building adjacent to the slum, the ignorant residents could be seen rolling on the streets as the notorious officers gave them a beating of the year.
“We will not make any arrest but…” These were the seemingly warning words of Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Charles Mbatu during a press conference at Chuka town.
The officer addressed media minutes before the 7pm curfew where he insisted that following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order, streets and roads will from 7pm be a reserve of police and the other few essential service givers.
He said police officers had already been released on a single command of ensuring that the curfew order is adhered to the latter.
The most disadvantaged are the prostitutes whose business hours usually starts around 9pm.
