A controversial Tharaka Nithi blogger who mainly focuses on social-political issues has been arrested by officers from Chuka Directorate of Criminal Investigations office.
Eric Stima, who is a great critic of Governor Muthomi Njuki’s leadership was for several hours grilled by the detectives led by CCIO Ms Betty Chepngeno before he was released.
Stima who was accompanied by his lawyer Kirimi Mituri throughout his stay at the offices told journalists that he was questioned over a Facebook post that he wrote on the mysterious death of Dennis Mwirigi, a patient who was admitted at Chuka County Referral Hospital last Sunday for removal of an internal fixation implant from a healed broken leg in theatre.
Residents have severally complained over services at the Referral Hospital citing cases of negligence by health workers which could have contributed to the death.
MYSTERIOUS DEATH
According to the said contentious post seen by the Press Point, quoting news published by mainstream media, the blogger calls for thorough investigations and arraignment in court of anyone found culpable of criminal act.
Stima also criticizes the administration of the hospital for taking too long before informing the next of kin of the death of their loved one, a 30-year-old mechanic from Mitheru ward in Maara constituency.
GOVERNOR’S SECRET MEETINGS EXPOSED
The Press Point has also learnt that there were concerns by the officers over how the blogger learns of details of Njuki’s very secretive meetings even those held outside the county.
Immediately after the word went round that the blogger had been arrested, politicians led by former Tharaka -Nithi Governor Samuel Ragwa, Mitheru ward MCA Nyaga Kuura, his Mugwe counterpart Dennis Mutwiri and close allies of Prof Erastus Njoka arrived at the DCI offices in solidarity with the man who has been a thorn in the flesh of Njuki’s government.
A battery of journalists also arrived at the offices eager to know the fate of the blogger.
Addressing the media, the politicians asked the CCIO to with immediate commence the investigations and have those involved arrested.
“The doctor who attended the deceased should have recorded statement with police because the death is controversial and deceased’ next of kin has already reported to police,” said Mr Ragwa.
MCA Kuura who is also the Assembly Health Committee Chair also demanded for a comprehensive report on the death by the hospital administration.
