A section of Nyeri business operators has petitioned the County Assembly to ban churches, matatus and bodaboda operators who cause ‘unnecessary’ noise from operating in the Central Business District.
The group said noise emanating from the open air preachers and boda boda operators was unhealthy for their businesses and appealed to MCAs to ban the operations.
They accused the riders of modifying their mufflers to be louder saying they were creating unnecessary disturbances in the town.
The County Assembly’s Environment and Natural Resources Committee Chairperson Mr Watson Weru said the noise had also affected learning in majority of schools within town and called for legal action legal action against the offenders.
He urged the public service vehicle operators to reset their muffles and avoid hooting near churches, hospitals and schools.
