Isiolo Nominated MCA Sumeya Bishar has lashed out at the officials heading the department of youth in the county government for failing to attend the International Youth Day celebrations held in Isiolo town on Thursday.

Ms Bishar, who represents the youth in the county assembly, said it was unfortunate that there was no government representative at the event saying it showed that the county government was not concerned about the welfare of the youths.

“It is really unfortunate that they did not show up in such an event, it seems they do not care about the youth,” the legislator said.

The MCA took a swipe at the County Executive and Chief Officer of the youth department for failing to attend or send a representative to the celebrations.

“We do not take their absence lightly, let them tell us if indeed they (county officials) are there to support us or not,” Ms Bishar added.

Ms Bishar blamed the county government over the failure to release money set aside for the young people blaming it on the group’s idleness and indulgence in drug and substance abuse.

“If the money is there, let them release it to us now so that it can benefit us and if it is not available, they should let us know,” she demanded.

The MCA appealed to young people across the county to take up innovative activities that she said would greatly empower them economically.
