Isiolo County Secretary Dr Ahmed Galgalo has defended the county government against continued attacks by the public, activists, and a section of the leaders over alleged embezzlement of public funds.
The official maintained that expenditure by Governor Mohammed Kuti’s administration was in line with legal provisions and that no single coin had been lost or misused during their tenure.
Dr Galgalo rubbished off those claiming that some of the senior county officials had prowled public coffers for spreading cheap propaganda meant to tarnish the county’s good image.
“Those claiming that money has been stolen do not understand how government works. They think money is just picked and misused. That is nonsense. Honestly speaking, how can one steal government funds?”Dr Galgalo posed.
He said with the current measures in place to curb corruption and prevent pilferage of resources, no public officer would dare steal resources meant to benefit common Mwanachi as that will land them in jail.
“As things stand one cannot even dare steal Sh2 because they will be locked in cells. It cannot take a lot of time for the government to do so,” he said.
The CS spoke during a training session for board members who will be responsible for the management of the County Youth, Women and Persons Living with Disabilities Enterprise Fund.
Disbursement of the funds had been suspended following concerns raised by the Controller of Budget regarding a clause on administrative fees in the Act which has already been amended and is awaiting Governor Kuti’s nod.
Dr Galgalo the Act will be signed in few weeks to allow the release of the funds for use by the groups from next month.
He said the Sh22 million in the current 2021/2022 budget will be disbursed first and sh21 million for the previous financial year be factored in a supplementary budget.
More than 500 vulnerable youth, women and PWDs groups from Bulapesa, Wabera, Kinna and Burat will benefit from the funds through interest-free loans payable in two year’s time.
