Six more people who sustained injuries during the last Saturday’s Malanga tanker tragedy have died in the last three days raising the death toll to 19.
The six were among the more than 30 people who were severely injured during the blast that claimed 13 lives on the spot.
A pregnant woman and a male patient succumbed to severe burns on Tuesday and two others passed on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Siaya County Referral Hospital.
It has emerged that bereaved families will wait for two more weeks for the DNA results before identifying the bodies of their loved ones.
The families could have a difficult task identifying the bodies as medical reports indicate that most of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
Leaders and locals have called upon well-wishers and the national government to extend a helping hand to the county’s referral hospital saying most of the cases need specialized attention that is not available at the facility.
The tanker exploded while residents were siphoning fuel moments after the vehicle overturned after it was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry along Kisumu-Busia road.
