Hundreds of Isiolo residents Tuesday protested over the arrest of former Isiolo North MP Joseph Samal over incitement claims.
The irate residents thronged outside Isiolo Law Courts as the ex-MP was facing the ethnic contempt charges before Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai.
The group led by activists Joseph Eskuku, Andrew Mola Ilere, Luke Mithika, Ms Kuresha Bille and Jane Aris held peaceful demonstrations in Isiolo town after Mr Samal was charged.
They asked NCIC to take action against other ‘known’ local leaders who they claimed have been inciting communities.
The immediate former MP was arrested following an order by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over some remarks he reportedly made in November last year which were likely of inciting one of the communities against the others.
Mr Samal denied the charges and was released on Sh100, 000 bond.
The case will be mentioned on June 29, 2021 when the court will give further directions and fix the hearing date.
