The Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders has dismissed claims that it was no longer powerful, saying the elders were still revered across the country.
The Supreme Council of Ameru elders has in recent past been accused of biases in making verdicts and being used by some politicians to advance their selfish agenda.
But speaking after elections of Isiolo branch officials in Isiolo town, Njuri Ncheke Chairman Mr Linus Kathera and Secretary General Josphat Murangiri maintained that the council was still powerful and respected in solving different issues affecting Kenyan communities.
Mr Kathera said the elders were recognized by the government and were working hand in hand in improving Kenyan livelihoods.
“Njuri Ncheke is one and it is known and recognized across the country,” said Mr Kathera.
Mr Murangiri, who is in-charge of operations, stressed that the council was still highly esteemed and that their decisions are strictly adhered to by residents and politicians.
“If we tell the Governor to do this, he will definitely heed to our call,” said Mr Murangiri adding that the elders’ decisions are not influenced by politicians.
“If you want to confirm that Njuri Ncheke is still powerful step on our toes,” he told journalists.
