A police officer in Meru is on the spot for attacking a 20-year-old businesswoman who reminded him of Sh720 debt he owed her.

Police reports indicate that Ms Keziah Gakii was hit with a beer bottle by an officer based in Buuri East Sub-County while at a pub within Thimangiri area.

The assault came after Ms Gakii reminded the officer of the debt that she claimed he had promised to pay in January this year.

Ms Gakii said during the incident that occurred two weeks ago, she sustained grievous bodily harm that left her unconscious, with deep cuts on her upper lip and bedridden for days after receiving treatment at Meru Level Five Hospital.

Imenti North Sub-County Police Commander Mr Laban Omol, said they are yet to open a file into the accusations, as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) had not given a go-ahead.

He added that the recommendations were critical since the officer was based in a different Sub-County but allegedly committed the crime in Imenti North.
