One person died after a cargo boat he was traveling in capsized at Tusitiri area in Lamu.
Two other occupants, boat coxswain and a loader, of the ill-fated boat that was ferrying potatoes to Lamu Island, were rescued during the Saturday evening incident.
The body of the man who Kenya Maritime Authority said was a loader of the boat was recovered within the accident scene after local divers embarked on the rescue mission.
The accident is believed to have been caused by strong winds and tides.
