Isiolo County Health Chief Officer Ibrahim Alio has contracted the deadly Coronavirus.
Mr Alio said he had isolated himself and that he was in a stable condition with the news coming barely hours after County Woman Rep Rehema Jaldesa also said she had tested positive for the disease.
“I felt weak, coughed and had fever before I took the test,” Mr Alio said. He revealed that he will undertake repeat tests in the course of the week and resume work once he tests negative.
Twelve people have succumbed to the disease in last one month even as residents continue to live normal lives and ignoring the Ministry of Health guidelines.
The official confirmed that the latest fatalities were of a woman and a man who were admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) last Sunday and Monday this week.
Nine people died from the disease in March this year, while the three others died in the last three days.
Six patients have recovered in the last one week according to Mr Alio.
Delayed results continue to impede contact tracing exercise contributing to the spike in infections across the county.
Mr Alio noted that the ICU department continued to receive critically ill patients, majority of whom have underlying conditions, expressing fears that it might be overwhelmed.
He called for strict adherence to health protocols on hand-washing, social distancing and wearing of masks and advised residents to keep off social gatherings such as weddings and burial ceremonies, where social distancing is rarely observed to keep themselves and their families safe.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that tens of people have died across the county from Covid-19 related complications.
