The Media Council of Kenya has called on security agencies to bring to book goons who attacked four journalists during the London ward by-election in Nakuru.
The journalists, from four media houses, were covering the mini-poll at Milimani Primary school when they were attacked by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party supporters sustaining injuries on the head and hands.
The polls were marred with chaos as supporters of various contestants clashed over claims of voter bribery forcing police officers to lob teargas to disperse the groups.
While condemning the incident, MCK said such violence on journalists was unacceptable and against the press freedom as enshrined in Article 34 and Article 35 of the Constitution.
“The police should expedite investigations so that the culprits are brought to book,” MCK Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo said in a statement sent to media houses.
