Communities living in Isiolo have been asked to coexist and shun leaders propagating divisive politics that could tear apart the county.
Isiolo Finance Chief Officer Peter Ngechu said residents should live peacefully and continue supporting each other for the realization of more development.
“We all rely on each other and for us to grow, we must love and respect each other and work together. If we are divided, we will not make any progress,” said Mr Ngechu.
He spoke during the distribution of food to more than 150 elderly persons by Mfinyanzi Community Based Organisation meant to cushion them against the biting effects of Coronavirus.
The senior citizens benefited with maize and wheat flour and cooking oil, which could take them a week, and face masks.
While thanking Governor Mohamed Kuti administration for partnering with the CBO in the provision of the food, Mr Ngechu, who is the group Chairperson, stressed the need for the community to support the elderly saying most of them have no one to rely on and end up suffering in silence.
Agnes Nyaruai, a beneficiary, lauded the CBO for the nice gesture. “I am so happy. The food will take me for a week,” she said.
The group, which marked five years since its inception on Saturday, February 20, 2021, said they will soon make public the political direction they will take ahead of next year’s general elections.
“We will walk and talk in one voice (when election time comes) but as of now, we are not supporting any side but when the time comes, we will sit down and seek our elders’ direction,” he said on behalf of the Agikuyu community in Isiolo.
