Detectives on a mission to rescue a 26-year-old man who had been abducted by a machete-wielding gang in Changamwe, Mombasa have shot dead one of the criminals.

The sleuths together with police officers rescued Wambua Mutuku at Lilongwe area where he had been taken hostage on Saturday morning.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, in a Twitter post, said other accomplices fled leaving behind the machetes and crude weapons.

“The man was taken hostage at Lilongwe where detectives and police rescued him. One of the criminals was shot dead while other accomplices fled leaving behind five machetes and other crude weapons,” DCI wrote.

Responding to the post, Mohamed Juma said “I hope when schools reopen, chiefs will mobilize all children to report back because these gangs are of young boys still in school”
