Anyone visiting prisons must have been vaccinated against Covid-19 as State moves to stem spread of the disease across the correctional facilities.
Prisons Commissioner General Wycliffe Ogalo said all those visiting must provide a proof of vaccination before being allowed to see their loved ones.
The government recently announced plans to lift the ban on prison visits which had been introduced to help prevent the spread of the disease.
Nearly 90 percent of the inmates in Kenya have already been vaccinated with officials saying the prisons will start allowing visitations after all the prisoners get the jab.
The first phase of the vaccination drive targeting staff and inmates launched last week by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Kenya Prisons Service will be continous to target new inmates getting into the correctional facilities on daily basis.
“All visitors must proof that they have been fully vaccinated before being allowed in for the safety of the inmates,” he said during a visit at Manyani Maximum Security Prison.
