A section of Isiolo women activists have appealed to the government to ensure justice for peace ambassador Ms Elizabeth Ibrahim who was killed on Monday under unclear circumstances.
Ms Ibrahim, a mother of five, was reportedly stabbed to death by Patrick Awit over a suspected land row while attending a kin’s burial ceremony at Kambi Garba.
While condemning the heinous killing, Isiolo Gender Watch boss Grace Lolim said it was sad that Ms Ibrahim lost her life near the same place where her husband and son were killed 10 years ago.
“Alongside her children, she has left behind several adopted children who entirely depended on her,”said Ms Lolim.
Isiolo Voice of Women Network Chair Ms Consolata Lomilio mourned the late, who was the organization’s Vice chair, as a selfless servant who strived to ensure equality for women saying they would not relent fighting and speaking about Gender Based Violence cases.
“We need investigations expedited and action taken against everyone who was involved in the killing,” she said.
According to peace ambassador Ms Lucy Mworia, many women in the region continue to suffer violence after losing or separating with their husbands while local leaders were doing little to safeguard their rights.
“Many single mothers and widows continue to suffer in the hands of criminals and majority of them have lost hope in life. We (as Isiolo women) will not sit and watch while our fellows continue to face injustices under the government watch,” Ms Mworia stressed.
The group has appealed to leaders to speed up titling process to avert further suffering by the locals.
“If the dispute had been resolved, the killing might have been prevented. We urge the county government and security team to speed up establishment of a taskforce that will help solve the existing land disputes in the county,” the Isiolo North MP aspirant said.
