Detectives in Kiambu have arrested a suspect who stole Sh4 million from her employer three weeks ago while seeking protection from a withdoctor.
Ms Miriam Mwelu, who was in company of her partner Timothy Akoi, was pounced on at a withdoctor’s house in Gachie.
The detectives found the suspect being immersed in a basin containing a concoction of blood drawn from a dead fowl.
Some paraphernalia such as horns, feathers and cowrie shells were recovered.
The witch doctor pronounced endless incantations in an attempt to keep the officers at bay, but they immediately executed their mission to the bemusement of the woman who had closed her eyes expecting the sleuths to vanish.
The witchdoctor, reports indicate, had listed “how to evade DCI arrest” as among the services offered and which cost Sh5000.
The suspect later led the detectives to her parents home in Ithanga, Murang’a county, where Sh1.57million and jewelry were recovered.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has cautioned criminals against seeking services of wizards to protect them from police officers.
“Criminals have resorted to witchcraft and other unorthodox methods, in a bid to evade detection by our hawk-eyed detectives,” DCI shared.
