Imenti North in Meru County is emerging among the Covid-19 hotspot areas in the region, data from the Ministry of Health shows.
Relaxation of Coronavirus health protocols and the don’t care attitude residents have slowly embraced following series of political meetings where thousands of attendees deliberately flout the rules is to blame for the spike witnessed in the past few days.
More 1018 people on Wednesday tested positive of the disease bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 51, 851 while 16 more people succumbed to the disease bringing the total fatalities to 950.
Meru County has had a spike in the last one week with at least 70 cases reported out of which 60 percent came from Imenti North (40 cases). More than 80 percent of the total reported cases for the past week are from Imenti.
The other cases are distributed in Imenti South, North and Central and Igembe North.
In the release, Meru and Isiolo both reported 14 cases with Imenti North leading with 12 cases while the remaining two were from Imenti South.
The spike in infections is worrying authorities in Meru county as persistent call for residents to reembrace the health rules seems to be falling on deaf ears.
Neighbouring Isiolo has in less than a week reported 40 cases mostly from Isiolo town and Garbatulla which continues to spread fear and panic among the public.
