Why Governor Njuki wants me stripped off Assembly powers

Tharaka Nithi County Assembly Majority Leader and the Karingani MCA Godfrey Murithi Gaturo has revealed that Governor Muthomi Njuki wants him out of all house leadership in order to kill a Ward Development Fund bill that he has sponsored.

The embattled MCA said Njuki is bitter with the bill that proposes that 40 percent of the development money be shared equally among the 15 wards.

He said with the passing of the bill that is at advanced stage, no ward representative will be compelled to kneel down to the Governor to plead for development in their respective wards.

“Njuki knows very well that if this bill passes, MCAs will no longer be his slaves and that is why he wants me out of any influential position in the assembly,” Mr Gaturo told journalists at the county assembly offices in Chuka town.

The Majority Leader said the honey-moon is over and is now time for the MCAs and the Executive to play their role without interference or intimidations.

He added that it’s the high time the locals take serious the accusations leveled against the county boss by his deputy Nyamu Kagwima.

“If Njuki cannot be trusted with few Jubilee Party members votes, then he could have even stolen elections and cannot be trusted with billions of shillings,” he said.

Mitheru ward representative Nyaga Kuura who is also the Deputy Majority Leader said its time for the few sell-out MCAs who enjoy yellow envelopes to help advance Governor’s agenda in the Assembly to get contented with their salary.

“While we are fighting for the rights of our residents, there are the few people who enjoy yellow envelopes at the expense of the locals needs,” said Mr Kuura.

Chogoria MCA Margret Gitari and her Mugwe counterpart Mutwiri Muthitu asked Speaker David Mbaya who has tendered a 30-day resignation notice due to the pressure by the governor to stay put.

“Speaker wants to quit because Njuki is forcing him to dictate activities of the Assembly,” said Ms Gitari.
