Two police officers in Kericho are on the spot for allegedly torturing two cousins leading to the death of one of them over suspicion of stealing beehives from one of the officer’s home.

One of the officer’s is alleged to be a bodyguard to one of the top politicians in the county while the other’s work station is yet to be established.

According to the victims’ relatives, the officers picked Emmanuel Kiprotich and Leonard Kipyegon following the incident and took them at the border of Mangwein and Chemugusu villages where they assaulted them.

The two were later recovered in a bush near a river in critical condition.

Mr Kipyegon died before he could be taken to the hospital for treatment while his cousin was treated and discharged.

The family has appealed to the government to speed up investigation and ensure justice is served saying they cannot afford to give a decent send-off to their kin as they are living in absolute poverty.

County Criminal Investigation Officer Mr John Onyango said investigations had been commenced and revealed that police had established the registration number of the vehicle believed to have been used to transport the victims to the crime scene.
