Tharaka-Nithi County Assembly is struggling to pay pending bills worth Sh20.8 million for the 2017/2018 financial year less than a month to the closure of the financial year.
The Sh20.8 million comprises of Sh16.8 million owed to suppliers, MCAs and Assembly staff allowances and Sh4 million for committee services.
The construction companies are Chuka General Construction Company (Sh1.9 million) and GEM-CM Construction Company (Sh4.4 million).
The suppliers include; Joseka Best Enterprises LTD (Sh309, 740), Survo General Works (Sh593,812), Ethics and Integrity Institute (Sh483,024), Institute of Capacity Building (Sh1.1 million), Standard Group Limited (Sh295,800), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (Sh649,600), Flotex Services (Sh380,000) Equip Africa Institute (Sh211,700) and Fredkim Agencies Ltd (Sh100,000) among others.
Hotels
The Assembly owes various hotels in the region Sh1.7 million including; Sunstar Hotel (Sh614,800), Izaak Walton (Sh526,700), Elsa Hotel (Sh179,400), Country View Hotel (Sh180,000), Lowlands Hotel (Sh160,000) and Orient Hotel (71,400).
A company that developed the Assembly website last year is still holding the rights due to delayed payment of Sh370, 500.
Supplementary budget
The Assembly recently passed a supplementary budget factoring the Sh20.8 million but sources among them the creditors told The Press Point that they were yet to receive their money.
