Tension is building up at Borchina in Merti, near Isiolo-Wajir border following killing of two people and injuring of six others by suspected bandits.
The unknown number of attackers that police say had an expansionist agenda ambushed the eight within a grazing field and walked away with 1000 herds of cattle around 4am on Friday.
Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding said manhunt for the criminals was underway and that a contingent of police officers had been deployed to comb the area and beef up security.
The injured were rushed to Merti Sub-County hospital and others Isiolo Referral Hospital.
“The attackers wanted to drive the locals from the area so that they would take over the management of the pastures,” Mr Omoding said.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that several criminals were killed following a gunfight between the bandits and National Police Reservists on Isiolo side.
Isiolo Jubilee Party gubernatorial candidate Abdi Guyo facilitated airlifting of some of the patients with bullets lodged in their bodies to hospital.
Two of the injured are hospitalised at the Referral Hospital with fractures and bullet wounds majorly on the lower abdomen.
