Tension is rife at Mado Wale village in Bassa Location, Merti Sub-County following Sunday morning bandit attack where five people, among them three women, were killed.
Police reports indicate that the suspected bandits raided the village at dawn and shot dead two men and three women and later torched Mado Wale community borehole that serves the area residents.
It is suspected that the criminals came from the neighbouring Wajir County.
Locals said six people were killed but police confirmed five deaths.Several police officers have been deployed to the area to beef up security.
Isiolo County Commissioner Herman Shambi said the security team was committed to arresting the criminals and maintained that Wajir people must repair the vandalized borehole.
“I am appealing to our people not to revenge but allow police track down the assailants,” said Mr Shambi.
The administrator urged elders from the two counties to join hands and spearhead peace efforts so that a lasting solution to insecurity menace is found.
Isiolo North MP Hassan Odha lamented over rising cases of insecurity in the area and urged security arms to avert further attacks.
“The government should contain the situation and move with speed to arrest all suspects so that our people can live in peace and without fear,” said Mr Odha.
