The Star of Hope Association Administrator General Ahmed Sett has asked Muslim parents to enroll their children to Madrassa classes on Quran, its rules and art of recitation.
Mr Sett said learning of Quran at younger age makes children grow into law abiding citizen as the teachings inculcate good morals and values.
Speaking while awarding the best contestants in Quran recitation competition for children sponsored by SOHA in partnership with Radio Baliti, Mr Sett said the contest was for encouraging children gain confidence in memorizing Quran.
“Muslim community should ensure their children attend the classes to learn religious virtues which are vital in life,” Mr Sett said.
The contest, that attracted eight participants aged between seven and 12 years from four religious centers within Isiolo town and its environs, also tested the children’s ability to pronounce and articulate the words.
Hassan Mohammed Hassan, Imam who oversaw the exercise, said “We were looking at Huruf, Hifadhi, Qalqala, Tajwid, Sound and Hifdhi and three out of the eight emerged the best,” Sheikh Hassan said.
A 12-year-old Alio Mohammed who emerged the winner was awarded Sh5,000, Ubeid Ilahi who came second, took home Sh4,000 while Zeituna Abashir who emerged third best got Sh3,000. The three also received a copy of Quran and certificates.
The five others were given certificates of participation.
Mr Sett called upon communities living Isiolo to coexist peacefully in line with the Islamic teachings.
