Veteran journalist and prolific writer Lucas Barasa is the new Standard Media Group Kisumu Bureau chief.
Early this year, the seasoned scribe left Nation Media Group where he has served in different capacities in the editorial department.
There are reports that before landing the new job, Barasa was working as the communication consultant for Mandera County among other communication consultancy works.
Before going back to the NMG Twin Towers where he had earlier worked for many years, Barasa served as the Regional Editor in-charge of Upper Eastern counties which include Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Embu, Marsabit, Isiolo and Mandera.
Back in 2002-2003, he served as Eldoret Bureau Chief at the time of Kenya’s transition from Kanu’s 40- year rule before he was moved to Nairobi.
An all-rounder, Barasa mainly writes on political, regional, business and climate change stories.
According to his online career profile, his work has taken him to various countries including Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Africa, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia and Germany.
He has covered major events in the country, including the Gor Sunguh led Ouko Inquiry and the Annan Talks that ended Kenya’s two months of post-election violence.
Regionally, Barasa reported on the Somalia National Reconciliation Conference, the Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement, former South Sudan President John Garang’s burial in Juba, the Darfur war and various East African Community Heads of State and Governments Summits.
