Murang’a High School’s Simiyu Robinson Wanjala topped the 2020 KCSE exams with mean grade of 87.334 points (Grade A).
Of the 747, 161 candidates who sat for the exams, 143, 140 scored C + and above including 893 who attained Grade A, an increase from 125, 747 in 2019.
Miriam Kipkemoi of Moi Girls High School Eldoret emerged the best special need student with a mean of 84.8 points. More than 200 candidates with special needs scored C + and above, an improvement from 127 in previous year.
Some 5730 learners missed the exams.
A total of 652 female candidates sat for the exams in hospitals after delivery with Bungoma, Meru, Nakuru, Nandi and Kisii among those with the highest numbers.
Education CS George Magoha said the number of candidates impregnated during Covid-19 period might have soared due to the nine-month closure of schools.
Boys who sat for KCSE were 380, 327 while the girls were 366, 834.
Mandera and Garissa are among the counties where boys performed well.
Students who sat the exams are required to send their index number followed by KCSE (XXXXXXKCSE) to 20076 to access their results.
