Police in Murang’a have launched manhunt for a 21-year-old woman who allegedly stabbed her two-year-old son to death and injured another, aged four years, at Kianjogu village on Sunday.
The injured boy is admitted at Murang’a Level Five Hospital in critical state.
Reports indicate that the young mother, after committing the crime attempted to kill herself as a rope was found hanging on the ceiling of the room where the boy’s body was discovered lying in a pool of blood.
The woman, said to be a househelp, had gone home to check on her children who have been under the care of their grandmother who was away when the incident occurred.
Residents, who said they did not hear any commotion, learnt of the ugly incident after the boys grandmother came back and found one boy dead and the other battling for his life long after their mother had fled.
Those who saw the woman recently said she looked somewhat disturbed.
Murang’a County Criminal Investigations Officer Daniel Kandie said the woman was being sought as the main suspect in the killing.
