Six judges whose nomination for appointment was rejected by immediate former President Uhuru Kenyatta three years ago have finally been approved by President William Ruto.
High Court Justices Joel Ngugi, Aggrey Muchelule, George Odunga and Weldon Korir Wednesday took oath of office as new Judges of the court of Appeal at a ceremony presided over by the President in State House.
Judith Omange and Evans Kiago were also appointed as Environment and Land Court judges.
Dr Ruto had in his inauguration speech promised to immediately process the appointment of the six who were nominated by the Judicial Service Commission.
Promising to uphold and protect the independence of the Judiciary, the Head of State said it was sad that the six had waited for too long than it should have been.
“You have my best wishes as you serve Kenyans. It is important to have an efficient and independent Judiciary and that is why we have Judiciary fund,” Dr Ruto said.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga who vehemently criticized Mr Kenyatta for refusing to swear the six also attended the event.
