Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has warned vernacular FM stations in Northern Kenya against fueling hate and tension as the region continues to witness a spate of clashes that have resulted to loss of lives and destruction of properties.
Dr Matiang’i spoke after meeting leaders from Isiolo, Garissa and Wajir counties.
Among the issues discussed at the Nairobi meeting that took about three hours was incessant clashes at Isiolo/Garissa border in Garbatulla where tens have been killed in recent months.
On boundary dispute between the counties, the CS said a contingent of officers will be deployed to the conflict-prone areas to reduce tension and ensure peace.
“The areas will be policed better,” the CS assured.
The Press Point is reliably informed that two vernacular radio stations are among those being investigated for spreading hate.
