Isiolo North MP aspirant Osman Shariff Abukar has warned residents against voting in incompetent leaders just because they are from their tribes.
During a rally in Isiolo town, the aspirant said the county had lagged behind in development because majority of the voters elected leaders on tribal lines while others were being lured with handouts to vote for selfish politicians who disappear after elections.
“We have no tangible development projects because we have been voting for people from our tribes. We need to look beyond our tribes and elect leaders who will take care of our needs,” said Mr Shariff.
He faulted the elected leaders over what he said was poor development track record and urged the electorates to vote for leaders who were development oriented.
“Responsibility starts with the voters, you must be responsible with your vote so that your leaders can be responsible too,” he noted.
Promising to address insecurity menace if elected in August elections, the Chama Cha Kazi candidate urged the locals to keenly scrutinize the aspirants to establish those with their interests at heart.
Mr Shariff, who hails from little known Asharaff sub-clan of the Somali community, recently launched his five-point manifesto that prioritises on education, security and inclusivity among others.
The race to dislodge incumbent MP Hassan Odha has attracted a total of 16 aspirants.
