Mugithi star Mighty Salim aka Timothy Njuguna and younger brother to late Mugithi maestro Salim Junior has breathed his last, reports indicate.
The musician, who was diagnosed with diabetes in 2003 and 15 years later developed kidney failure, was in and out of the hospital and underwent dialysis twice a week which cost him Sh20, 000.
The legend, whose brother succumbed at a hospital in Nakuru five years ago after a prolonged illness, was at center of controversy early last year when he denounced Christianity and joined the Gwata Ndai group.
This happened months after he left the hospital after he was flown to India for specialized treatment saying he had seen the light and was cleansed of taboos and curses.
The benga legend had a month earlier decried betrayal by friends and politicians who he used to perform at their events.
While bed-ridden at the time and in need of over Sh2 million for a kidney transplant, he said an MP from Mt Kenya wrote him a Sh50, 000 fake cheque and went underground.
Kenyans and fellow musicians mourned his death. “Rest in Peace bro (Mighty Salim) So, so sad,” Gathee wa Njeri shared on his Facebook page.
