Residents of Thigaa village in Maara constituency woke up to rude shock of a cock on the rooftop of a residential house belonging to one of the residents where some household items were stolen Thursday last week.
Renowned Meru wizard Robert Kathata’s son visited the village on Tuesday after a teacher, who is the owner of the house, sought his help in recovering Sh48, 000 TV, pressure cooker and two food dishes using his black art.
Popularly known as Ramoh or Kathata Junior, the wizard placed the cock on the rooftop where it’s visible from the main road and residents have been assembling at the point to see the wonders of their lifetime while others fear to getting close so that a spell won’t be casted on them.
The late Ramoh’s father was a famous witchdoctor who was very popular especially in the Meru community and the old Coast Province.
A worker at the homestead told media that the wizard said should the thieves fail to return the items within the seven days, they would die or go mad.
He said the cock had spent the past five days at the rooftop and does not take food or water and that will disappear on the seventh day when the culprits will start facing the ire.
Witchdoctor cost
However, if they return the stolen property before the seven days lapse, they would only be required to pay the witchdoctor’s service cost only.
The young man no longer locks the doors as the cock watches over the house during the day and at night.
“Even when I go to Chogoria town, I just leave the house open because I know nothing can be stolen as the cock guards everything in the homestead,” the farmhand said.
Master key
The thieves could have entered the house through one of the exit doors as there were no signs of break-ins when we visited the home.
“That night when the items were stolen, I watched a movie to late night and slept around 2am having switched off the lights but was shocked to find the items stolen and lights on the following morning,” he narrated.
Residents who spoke to The Press Point said unknown people had on some occasions stormed the teacher’s house and stolen various properties and that they recently stole all the seats from his vehicle.
A resident, Murithi Fredrick said a gang of young people had been terrorizing the villagers and breaking into their houses targeting to steal electronics.
The gang is said to have re-emerged after disappearing for some time.
“Young people should work to earn a living not relying on other people’s sweat by reaping where they never sowed,” Murithi said.
