Isiolo MCAs last week approved a motion on empowering local miners in the county.
The county has among others gold and other precious stones majorly in Garbatulla and Merti Sub-Counties.
The motion was tabled by Majority Leader and Environment Committee Chair Isack Fayo.
While stressing on the need for the county government to empower the communities within the local mining sites, Mr Fayo lamented over the ongoing operation and curfew in Kom which he said had affected the growing local businesses.
Families depending on the Kom Durte mining site have lost livelihoods leaving them devastated.
The MCAs urged Governor Mohammed Kuti adminstration to collaborate with the national government in providing adequate security to local miners, vetting them so that those with good records are allowed to continue operating.
An appeal for social amenities such as health facilities and water was also made to the county government due to growing population in the region.
The Kinna MCA had earlier requested for a statement on status of casual workers in the county from the Assembly Labour Committee Chair.
Mr Fayo sought clarification on dispensation by County Treasury total disbursed funds for casual wages in previous fiscal year 2020/2021 and current’s 2021/2022 and reasons why the workers had not been paid for over 10 months.
The statement also sought terms of engagement for affected casual workers and the total number of casuals across all the county departments.
