Detectives have arrested a 29-year-old man who hacked a friend over Sh4000 debt before torching the body at a bush at Zombie area in Kitui before disappearing from the village.
The disappearance of Nicholas Luka, who was being hosted by the deceased, from his house for a week raised suspicion among the public.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr Luka and 36-year-old Simon Mwangangi had an argument over the debt resulting in a fight.
Furious Luka picked a panga and slit the friend’s throat and watched as he breathed his last.
To cover up the heinous act, the suspect then dragged the body to the scene where he covered it with heaps of plastics before setting it on fire.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, via Twitter post, said the remains had been taken for forensic analysis.
