A first-year Laikipia University student was on Wednesday murdered by her girlfriend’s lover under unclear circumstances.

The man, only identified as Ezra, stabbed Gertrude Chepkoech with a knife six times inside her room where he had reportedly gone to meet his girlfriend, the deceased roommate, who was not around at the time.

The suspect, after killing the lady, turned the knife on himself in the belly and slit his throat in an attempt to kill himself.

The suspect had last week sneaked into the hostel but was kicked out after his girlfriend alerted the management following some disagreements.

He would days later sneak into the hostel again and on finding the girlfriend had left for exams, locked the door and attacked Ms Chepkoech with a knife he had carried.

Residents rushed to the scene after hearing screams only to find the student’s lifeless body lying on the floor.

Furious, residents descended on the suspect but he was rescued by police officers and rushed to the hospital though seriously injured.

Investigations into the bizarre killing have been launched.
