Isiolo residents were on Tuesday morning treated to a rude shock after two stray elephants were spotted walking in Isiolo town.
The elephants, according to sources, had come from a neighbouring Game Reserve and had sneaked out due to the ongoing drought that continues to ravage the county.
Residents who witnessed the around 7 AM incident said the animals were not violent while marauding the town.
In a video trending online, the two jumbos are seen walking by the roadside along Isiolo-Moyale highway near the diversion to Isiolo livestock market.
The animals however destroyed a perimeter wall at one of the secondary schools in Isiolo town before injuring a 20-year-old man who reportedly tried to scare them away while leaving the town.
The man who sustained injuries on the face and ribs is receiving treatment at Isiolo County Referral Hospital.
Locals called upon the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to restrain the wild animals from getting out of the parks saying they could continue causing more destruction of properties and even loss of lives.
“We know there is drought but it should not be the reason why the officers should remain silent while the wild animals are getting out of the parks to cause harm,” said Mr Hussein Guyo.
