A man who impersonated a Kenya Defence Forces senior officer to obtain money from unsuspecting citizen promising them an opportunity in the Forces has been charged in Kibera Law Courts.
Reports indicate that Mr Emanuel Soita, a teacher, received Sh1, 355,700 from Ms Zebedy Amustsama promising a KDF job for her daughter.
The court heard that the suspect delivered a fake letter to the victim who had already sent the full amount between January 10 and March 5 through Mpesa.
The accused had claimed that he worked at the rank of a captain in KDF and that he was involved in the recruitment exercise.
The Chief Defence Forces of Kenya General Robert Kibochi recently warned Kenyans against paying any money to get job opportunities in the Forces.
He assured them of fairness in recruitment exercise of soldiers, cadets, specialists and other officers and appealed to residents to follow due process.
“As a society we should be careful on how we handle the information we get. Recruitment only takes place at published locations,” General Kibochi said during an interview with a national TV.
He revealed that 21 soldiers accused of obtaining bribes had pending cases before court martial.
