Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding has warned chiefs, their assistants and area managers against mismanaging relief food meant for needy families saying they risk losing their jobs.
Mr Omoding said disciplinary action would be taken against administrators who will be found culpable of perpetrating corruption during subsequent relief food distribution.
A section of the residents earlier complained that recent food provisions by county and national government did not reach the intended persons in some of the areas and called for streamlining of the process to ensure transparency.
“If someone dies of hunger within your jurisdictions while the government has provided food to cushion the starving families, you will be sacked,” he warned during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Isiolo town.
He said relief food donation from the national and county government was not enough to take care of all those in need but promised that more aid would be availed.
Over 150, 000 residents in the county representing about 30, 000 households are in dire need of food interventions according to National Drought Management Authority.
Mr Omoding also ordered that those who will be tasked with overseeing the food distribution make public the names of beneficiaries for transparency purposes.
A total of 16, 000 families are benefiting under government and non-State cash transfer programs.
Hi sentiments were echoed by Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo who promised that his administration would collaborate with the national government to salvage the residents from the ravaging effects of drought.
“My administration is committed to working alongside our development partners and the national government to ensure no single person in our county dies of hunger,” said the county boss.
