Close to 100 girls at St Anne Kiriari Girls Secondary in Embu were left without a place to sleep after fire gutted down a dormitory at the school destroying property worth millions.

The inferno broke out when the girls were in Wednesday morning preps and destroyed beddings, mattresses and learning materials causing fear and panic among students and teachers.

The incident disrupted learning at the school for several hours.

The properties had been reduced to ashes by the time fire fighters arrived at the school but no person was injured.

Investigations into the cause of the fire have been launched with reports indicating that the dorm had a capacity of 90 girls.
