Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti has assured that community land registration is on course and will be completed in a year’s time.
Registration of the land, the Governor said, will end border disputes with the neighbouring counties that have led to continued fighting and loss of lives in the region.
Governor Kuti said elected leaders from the County will Thursday May 6 attend a virtual meeting organised by the National Land Commission (NLC) geared towards ensuring an all-inclusive process.
“We will ensure everyone’s views are considered while we fast-track the process in efforts to end border disputes with our neighbours,” Dr Kuti told journalists in Isiolo town.
While condemning last Sunday attack at Qarsa in Kinna ward where one person was killed and eight injured by suspected bandits from Garissa, the Governor warned politicians against making divisive statements that could further worsen the situation and asked them to work together towards ensuring peace.
Dr Kuti lamented that most of the attacks were happening on Isiolo soil and that the attackers had an expansionist agenda of displacing his people from their ancestral land.
“The government should move with speed and ensure peace in our county through deployment of officers to insecurity prone areas because people continue to die each day,” the Governor said.
He called upon elders and elected leaders from Isiolo, Wajir, Garissa and Samburu counties to spearhead peace efforts in the counties for realization of development in the region.
“Religious leaders, elders and political leaders should frequently meet and chart way forward,” he said.
Accompanied by the County Secretary Ahmed Galgalo, the Governor also blamed the rising insecurity on proliferation of illegal firearms and asked authorities to ensure they are all surrendered.
