In economics, anything that is oversupplied loses value very first when the demand is low and the opposite applies when the demand is higher than the supply- value increases.
Similarly, anything produced by increasing one factor, while the rest are constant results in diminished outcomes over time.
These economic examples are true in socio-political spheres as well.
If a politician becomes too much, always in the news and in public domain, he or she oversupply themselves.
The outcome of too much public exposure for a political figure is obviously less public demand and relevance.
On the other hand, if a political figure focuses on only one or few issues all the time, while ignoring others, the political returns diminish over time.
These downturns are clearly visible when a popular political figure starts to attract fewer and fewer audience in areas or regions where he or she was very popular.
This is evident in opinion polls, whereby the popular politician’s ratings start to decrease, while those of their opponents register gradual increases.
The laws of demand and supply together with diminishing returns applies even in social relationships.
Too much love for a partner is usually reciprocated by the unexpected- less love than desired.
Too much money, especially for lottery winners, when other factors such as the winner’s ability to manage the windfall ends up badly.
This could be due to financial illiteracy, planning and exposure.
These economic laws are relevant in agricultural farming, business, industrial production and generally in every sphere of life.
Too much nutrition in the absence of physical exercise, medical advice and attention results in obesity, unattractive physique and even serious health problems.
Back to politics, when political laws of demand and supply as well as diminishing returns strike, the situation becomes dire.
When this happens many politicians will panic and start deploying uncouth methods to survive or rather to salvage the diminishing popularity.
Some of the methods politicians result to include but not limited to character assassination, vulgar language, brinkmanship, hooliganism, risky political utterances, incitements, bribery and conmanship among others.
However, politicians who find themselves in such unfamiliar situation could reverse their diminishing fortunes by conversely applying the same laws.
Instead of panicking and putting oneself in hot soup, such politicians could tactfully make themselves scarce and pay attention to the other campaign factors.
For instance, scale down the number of visits to strongholds, while increasing such in areas where popularity is low.
On the other hand, device and expand the scope of keynote issues.
In other words, avoid overusing one issue at the expense of other equally important ones.
This advice may appear easy but it is extremely difficult for politicians to adhere to and change strategy midway to an election.
In this regard, the end result is always defeat in the hands of their more informed, balanced and strategic political opponents.
In summary, you ignore these eco-political laws at your own peril. Great political and military strategists did so and failed badly in their misadventures.
These laws are relevant and universal.
