The country has been thrown into a mourning mood following the death of former Chief Justice Evans Gicheru.
The 79-year-old retired CJ leaves behind his wife and seven children.
Mr Gicheru who retired 10 years ago after serving for eight years took over from Chief Justice Chunga Benard in 2003.
He will be remembered for swearing-in former President Mwai Kibaki in a rush event in December 2007 amid protests over the ‘disputed’ elections.
His death was announced by Chief Justice David Maraga. “The country and Judiciary has lost a steadfast pulic servant…”
Justice Gicheru, who was the twelfth Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, was appointed a Judge of the High Court in 1982 and six years later, he was appointed to the Court of Appeal.
