Police and members of the public in Garbatulla Sub-County have successfully retrieved the body of a young man who was buried in a well that collapsed on Monday morning.

Garbatulla Deputy County Commissioner Stephen Nyakundi said the deceased, identified as Ali Alio Edin, had gone to fetch water at Sileti well in the company of others when the accident happened.

Three other people were injured during the incident and were treated at a local health facility and discharged.

Due to the ongoing drought in the area, the water levels at the well have reduced forcing the residents to dig deeper to get the crucial commodity.

“Water scarcity at the area makes the residents dig deeper. It is while he (deceased) was fetching water that the walls collapsed and covered him,” Mr Nayakundi told The Press Point.
