Kenya’s 10, 000 metres women’s race champion Agnes Tirop has been found dead at her Eldoret home.
It is suspected that Ms Tirop was murdered as her body had stab wounds.
The athlete, last month broke the World’s record during the Road to Records Race in Germany after finishing in 30minutes and one second.
Athletics Kenya has mourned her as one of the fastest rising giant athlete.
“May God grant strength to family and friends at this difficult time,” read part of the statement.
Police have launched investigations to establish the cause of the death.
