The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has signed a return-to-work formula with the government at KICC, ending the 56-days-old strike.
The union officials are set to announce to their members when to return to work.
The doctors’ union said though they had entered into an agreement with the government to return to work, the issue of intern doctors remained unsolved.
KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah praised various stakeholders involved in the talks including Council of Governors and Health CS Susan Nakhumicha.
“I am pleased that the union has called off the strike… To patients who wondered when the strike would end, we understand your pain,” CS Nakhumicha said during the inking of the deal.
Among their grievances was delayed posting of interns and payment, salary delays, and inadequate insurance coverage.
They were also demanding that contractual terms for health workers be made permanent and pensionable and their members be refunded money deducted towards the housing levy.
